Steve Poltz Live at Doverlaff House Concerts, Thursday, January 9

Steve Poltz
Hello music fans,

It has been a while since I last spammed you with a house concert notification.  Cheryl and I have been in India for the past 6 weeks. Got home 3 days ago and have not readjusted yet.  You can read my travelogue of our trip on my facebook profile page, which is public, no friend request needed.  I think you might enjoy the story.

But that is not why I am pestering you again.  We have more great concerts coming in the next few months, starting with Steve Poltz on Thursday, January 9 at 7 pm.  Dan Weber will open (again.)

Steve was a huge hit at Sisters Folk Festival and at the Sisters Americana Songwriting Academy.  He is funny and warm.  His humor is sometimes a bit out there but he really pulls you in.  He got a big break when he co-wrote with Jewell the song that made her a  household name.
As usual, we suggest a $15 donation per seat.  Advance donation guarantees your seat in case the show fills up.  You can send a check to Dan Dover, 7326 SE Woodward St., Portland, Oregon 97206. You can reach us by phone at 503.730.3189. We will have snacks available for free and beer and wine available for which we suggest a small donatio.

From Steve’s website:
(Steve) best known for his hilarious storytelling and witty personality, defying all traditional definitions in the songwriting genre. This is a rare artist who is as comfortable touring with such noted national acts like Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp, Jewel, The Wallflowers, Bare Naked Ladies, Rusted Root and Lucinda Williams in arenas, as well as performing intimate living room shows in any city in America. Successfully shattering the traditional troubadour mold, Poltz has most gloriously been compared to unique performers and songwriters like John Prine and Tom Waits. Steve wrote and appeared in the video of the 1995 hit, “You Were Meant For Me” helping launch Jewel’s debut CD to triple platinum.

Some press buzz:
Cracker singer David Lowery once opined that the world needs another folk singer ‘like I need a hole in the head.’ He must not have known about Steve Poltz…” –The Baltimore Sun

“Poltz has the impish sense of humor that lands mouthy but harmless boys in Saturday detention and possibly not-so-harmless men in the relationship doghouse—after a slap, or a drink, in the face or two…” –The Washington Times

“Clever, creative and humorous with a musical delivery all his own…” –Buzz Magazine

“Steve Poltz weds his love of absurdity to winsome melodies and aching chords on Chinese Vacation… There are times on Chinese Vacation where Poltz eerily echoes Jeff Tweedy’s sweetly scratchy croon, as if a miner has sifted his vocals through a sieve along with the sediment, nicotine and shiny nuggets…” –North County Times
