Hello Music Lovers,
We have had a little break since we hosted out last house concert, a totally amazing show with Martin Joseph in October. I think that is good. Too many shows starts to wear on us but, it is time for more music from Doverlaff.
On Wednesday, January 20th at 7 pm we will host another of our all time favorite singer-songwriters, a Martin Guitars official artist and amazing wordsmith, Danny Schmidt. This will be Danny’s 4th appearance at Doverlaff putting him among the top 3 frequent performers, all also Dans, Danny Schmidt, Dan Weber and yours truly.
If you know Danny Schmidt, the rest of this email is superfluous. If you don’t, it’s time you did. Danny is that perfect combination of great guitar player and amazing song-writer and sincere and humorous performer. His last performance here was in the garden with his wife, the incredible Carrie Elkin. It was the only show for which we got busted by the cops for excessive noise. This show will not get busted and will not be too loud. I promise.
Some reviewer comments:
From NetRhythms UK
Danny has a hell of an imagination, but one which doesn’t exclude his listeners, whom he holds in rapt attention throughout his storytelling and ruminations. I was so impressed with this album I just had to investigate further, and it turns out that Parables & Primes is Danny’s fourth CD, recorded back in 2005 and only just now gaining a UK release; apparently there’s a further new album on the way as we speak, which I’m looking forward to immensely.
Parables & Primes is an absolutely outstanding singer-songwriter album by any standards, truly one of the finest and most individual I’ve heard this year, and I’m glad to report that Danny’s going to be touring the UK briefly next month.
From Sing Out! Magazine
“Danny Schmidt is a force of nature: a blue moon, a hundred-year flood, an avalanche of a singer-songwriter. His songs are a flood of poetry, mythology, folk wisdom, and surprise.”
– Matt Watroba, Sing Out! magazine
From Austin Chronicle
“In today’s underground folk world, Danny Schmidt is spoken of in reverent tones, drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, with a poetry that breathes naturally and without pretension, with results that are both attractive and intense.”
– Jim Caligiuri, Austin Chronicle
